Social Value Case Studies (The Power of Impact Data for Decision-Making)

About the Social Value Case Studies for Change Series

Social Value International works with our members to embed core principles for social value measurement and analysis, to refine and share practice, and to build a powerful movement of like-minded people and organisations.

Across the world, our members are applying The Principles and helping to mainstream social value; using exciting methods to maximise the social value created for the benefit of people and the planet.

The sessions within this series are designed to enable members to share, and learn from, specific case studies of how the Principles of Social Value have been applied/embedded. Through sharing specific examples of how social value measurement and management has been applied, we hope that attendees will be able to apply these learnings to their own organisations and over time, this will lead to increased social value and IMM.

Taishin Financial Holdings has always had a strong commitment to social and corporate responsibility, which requires a long-term commitment and outlook. Taishin Charity Foundation (TCF) was established in 2010 with the aim of implementing a charity program with a long-term vision and goal of providing economic autonomy to more disadvantaged communities and people.

Since its establishment in 2010, Taishin Charity Foundation (TCF) has aimed to support small and medium-sized charitable organizations. In order to achieve that goal, TCF launched Taiwan’s first large-scale online charity event, called “The Power of Love Platform” (PLP). Within the event, funding is distributed among charitable projects based on the allocation of online public support by individual platform users.

This event not only allows small and medium charitable organizations to receive much-needed funding, but also provides publicity to participating organizations.

TCF adopted SROI approach to account for and manage the value created by PLP activities.

So far, three SROI analyses have been carried out (two of them assured by SVI), which allowed TCF not only to prove the impact of its activities, but also to observe some important trends in social value creation and to use the ongoing data collection to improve internal decision-making.

Within the session Dr. Chien-wen (Mark) Shen, SVI Level 3 advanced practitioner and Accredited Trainer and Simon Cheng, the Chairperson of the Taishin Charity Foundation, will share their experience of interpreting and using impact data to inform and improve management decisions.
